07/05/2008: Robert Mckee's Story Seminar

Peter studied recently at Robert Mckee's world famous Story Seminar. I was lucky because it came to Malaga, Spain and this was apparently the last Robert Mckee seminar to be held in Europe until 2010. Four days of 9am to 7pm intensive work on consecutive days with a round trip of 150kms a day was well worth the effort. The seminar covered items for novel writers as well as screen-writers. There isn't anything Mckee doesn't know about story and he pretty well covered it all in the four-days. On the final day I felt light hearted relief, a coffee with the crowd perhaps, like the end of term perhaps? What did I know? Dead on nine o'clock we got stuck into a six hour scene by scene, beat by beat analysis of Casablanca. Phew!

25/02/2008: BOOKLAUNCH PHILIPPA FISHER'S FAIRY GODSISTER

Peter and his writer partner, Merle Goldston were away last weekend at the booklaunch of Liz Kessler's new children's title Philippa Fisher's Fairy Godsister published by Orion 9.99 ISBN 978-1-84255-120-2. Among Liz's credits, Pete is credited as: 'coming up with a solution without (her) ever having told him the problem'. Peter is also credited with inventing the - er - snappy title for her bestselling book The Tail of Emily Windsnap. ISBN 978 1-84255-166-0. Both titles are available in Spain (in English) through Glitterati Bookshop, Estepona, tel: 952 92 81 36

14/01/2008: NEW BOOKSHOP/CAFE IN ESTEPONA

Peter Brookes was the consultant involved in the setting up of Glitterati, the new bookshop/cafe in Estepona, Spain where he spends most of the year. This is the second bookshop/cafe 'set-up' he has helped to develop in Andalucia. In 2002 Peter was consultant to Authors Bookshop and Cafe, in Guadalmina, now a successful part of the Bookworld Espana chain.

The new bookshop/cafe, Glitterati, is near Estepona Port. Turn left as you leave the Port exit and walk 400 metres up Avenida del Carmen and the store is on your left or by car drive out of the port and turn left by going round the roundabout. Take the first on your right . and turn immediately right again. Park as soon as you can as you head down towards Supersol.
